Annie Goen Hill

Mrs. Annie Goen Hill, 90 passed away January 16, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Franklin Hill and is survived by daughters, Anna Miller and her husband, Donnie of Marietta, Pat Camp and her husband Ron of Roswell, Carol Westbrook and her husband Larry of Marietta, Sharon Fields and her husband Mark of Marietta; son Guy (Butch) Hill and his wife Cindy of Marietta; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Born July 26, 1928 in East Point, GA to Eva Lou Connell and John Thomas Goen Annie was the youngest and sole survivor of nine children. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her brothers and sisters. She worked in a bakery during high school with her best friend Gwen, and loved roller skating and going to the beach. Annie graduated from Russell High School and got a job at Ft. Mac in the War Assets Department. She was introduced by a mutual friend to Guy Hill. They fell in love, were married in 1950, and enjoyed 53 years together. They worked to build a successful business while raising a family and contributing to their community through public service. When her husband got into politics Annie became his campaign manager and helped him get elected to the Georgia House of Representatives for five terms. The two went on Friendship Force and Chamber of Commerce trips, enjoyed cruises, traveled the world and attended Ronald Reagan’s presidential inauguration. Annie was an avid bowler and was a member of the Bola Bears who were league champions in 1961-62. She belonged to and was an active member for many years of the East Point Woman’s Club. Recently Annie was honored by the South Fulton Republican Women’s Club as their oldest living member and was also the recipient of their Chairman’s Award, their highest honor. Writing was always an important part of Annie’s life. Her brother J. T. Goen inspired her to follow this dream and she carried a pad and pen with her all her life. At 80 Annie had a children’s book published from an award-winning story she had written that she shared with family and friends. Annie was a long time member of Southwest Christian Church and maintained many friendships that lasted a lifetime. She loved hats and wore them to church every Sunday. At Arbor Terrace where she spent the last year Annie took a real interest in the residents and staff. She encouraged and inspired those around her until her final breath. Her family feels blessed to have had the opportunity to call this amazing woman mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend for so many years. A funeral service will be held Monday, January 21, 2019 at 11:30 am at Southwest Christian Church, 3836 US Hwy 29N, Newnan, GA 30265. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Temple, GA. Those wishing may sign the online guestbook at www.parrottfuneralhome.com.
