Daisy Thompson

Our beloved Daisy Thompson peacefully transitioned at home on January 6, 2024, in Tyrone, Georgia, at the age of 90. Daisy was born on September 16, 1933, in Colon, Panama, to Basil and Germain Suarez. At the tender age of 6, she and her grandparents migrated to Barbados, where she attended Alexandra High School. There, Daisy met and married her high school sweetheart, Emerson Thompson. After the couple migrated to the United States, Daisy began working for Gimbels Department Store in New York City. She and Emerson supported each other's academic aspirations. As a result, Daisy graduated from the College of New Rochelle with a Bachelor of Science degree. They eventually had two children and raised them in Laurelton, New York. Daisy taught her girls valuable skills to prepare them for the world. Her children, Lisa and Tanya, remember her as a kind, patient, strong, driven mother who encouraged them to pursue and succeed in their goals. Daisy became an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Specialist in Human Resources and enjoyed conducting seminars and workshops to promote workplace equality. She also loved helping others was passionate about making a difference. Moreover, she was an active and dedicated member of the Unity Church and volunteered for various events and projects. In 1994, Daisy retired but sought out a new challenge. She later returned to school to obtain her real estate license. Daisy sold many homes for friends and family. She also enjoyed gardening, dancing, and cooking. Daisy was a master at cooking various Caribbean dishes such as cou-cou and codfish, black pudding and souse, fishcakes, and coconut bread, to name a few. Above all, she cherished her role in her grandchildren's lives. Daisy is survived by her daughters Lisa and Tanya, granddaughters Mya, Shayla, and Tiara, her beloved Masiah, and sisters Beverly and Joanne. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband Emerson, son-in-law Donald Jr., and siblings Norma, Alito, Joanne S., and Basil Jr. Daisy was witty and had an infectious smile. Still, she was also known to express her displeasure by infamously sucking her teeth (chutsing up her mouth). We are grateful for the memories she leaves behind and her impact on our lives. She was truly a character, and her vivacious spirit will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held Monday, January 15, 2024 at 11 o'clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home with Pastor Greg McEvoy officiating. Interment will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens. the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Parrott Funeral Home & Crematory, 770-964-4800.
