Edgar Thompson

Edgar Thompson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on July 12, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on October 5, 1934, he lived a life marked by dedication to his family, a long career, and varied interests that brought joy to both himself and those around him. Edgar built a successful 30-year career with Liberty National Insurance, where he was known for his professionalism and commitment. He also spent a decade in the car business, reflecting his lifelong passion for classic cars—a passion that extended to his impressive collection of model cars and pens. A proud graduate from high school and college in Lagrange, Edgar carried the values instilled in him there throughout his life. Edgar was a man of many interests. His love for sports was evident in his avid support for the Atlanta Braves. He found relaxation and joy in reading and was an enthusiast of calligraphy, appreciating the art of beautiful writing. Edgar cherished his time spent at the beach, with October trips to Gulf Shores being a cherished tradition. Above all, he loved his family deeply and took great pride in each member's accomplishments and happiness. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Anna Thompson, and his sister, Maxine Miller. Edgar leaves behind his devoted wife of 68 years, Shirley Thompson; his loving son, Marc Thompson, his cherished daughters Connie Strickland (Dwayne) and Jill Chapman (Ward). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Michele Reel (Jeremy), Traci Chapman (Derrick Isham), Josh Farr (Kandice), and Allison Reddington (Gary), as well as his great-grandchildren Ashtin Adamson, Aidan Adamson, Raelyn Reel, Finley Isham, Presley Isham, Levi Farr, Cade Farr, Piper Farr, Brody Reddington, and Chase Reddington. His sister, Betty Sabbe, also survives him. Services to honor Edgar's life will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 2 o'clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. In remembering Edgar, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
