Mrs. Cora Estelle "Nana" Vineyard Thompson, age 82, of Palmetto, Georgia passed away peacefully at her home on August 21, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband John Frank Thompson Jr., and her son John Frank "Oggie" Thompson III. Nana was an active member of Ramah First Baptist Church for over 60 years. Nana is survived by her son, Andy Thompson; daughters Donna Copeland (Larry) and Heidi Hearn (Kevin); and daughter-in-law Suzanne Thompson; sisters Cornelia Cox and Camilla Summers (Lloyd) and brother Morgan Vineyard, sister-in-Law Drusilla Thompson, brother-in-law Joe Thompson (June), and many loving nieces, nephews and special friends. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Amy, Shawn, Brent, Daniel, Brandon, Clay, Katie, Erin, Nate, Adam, Ben, Ginny, and Luke. Nana loved her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, church and community. One of her greatest joys was babysitting her grandchildren and attending a million recitals, graduations, and ball games. She worked in many areas of her church: the nursery, kitchen, Bible School, and Sunday School. She was a substitute school teacher and a volunteer at Newnan Hospital. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club of Rico Community, prided herself on keeping a clean house, and loved raising flowers and plants.If someone needed help, she was there to help them, whether it was baking one of her pound cakes, driving them to a doctor's appointment, sitting in a hospital waiting room or just being there to comfort them. Life brought many challenges along the way, but she always faced them with a strong heart and abiding faith. She will be missed by all she loved and all who loved her. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 2 o'clock at Ramah First Baptist Church with remains place in state at 1 o'clock. Rev. Ralph Bobo and Rev. Mike Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family is accepting flowers or donations to Ramah First Baptist Church, P.O. 855, Palmetto, GA 30268.
