Eunice Chandler

Mrs. Eunice Chandler of Fairburn passed away December 13, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack A. Chandler, Sr. and is survived by her daughters, Judy Hughes of Jonesboro, GA; Linda Walker and her husband Jim of Tulsa, OK; Debbie Wright and her husband Mike of Blue Ridge, GA; son, Jack A. Chandler, Jr. and his wife Beverly of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Phyllis Gayheart of Xenia, OH; Freeda Justice of Dayton, OH; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Eunice Marie Fannin Chandler was born April 21, 1925, the eldest of five children, in the small coal mining community of Glo, Kentucky. At the age of fifteen with 45 cents from her mother, she left home to enroll in a federal training program for metal working. After her training she was sent to Wright-Patterson air base in Dayton, Ohio where she and other women lived in a barracks for six month to pay for their training and room and board. When Eunice began to receive a pay check she sent most of it back home. During the wars she made D-handles for parachute rip cords. One by one, Eunice brought her family including her parents out of the coal mines to better lives in Dayton. After the war Eunice and her sister Doris moved to Miami to have some fun. She met a brash carpenter working on the Fountain-bleu Hotel. While for him it was Love at first sight, she declined several dates. Thus began more than 60 years of romance. With their four children grown, from their fifties to their eighties Eunice and Jack traveled, made mission trips to build churches in rural areas, and camped and fished across America including several summers in Alaska. In their seventies they spent the winters in Florida fishing almost daily in the Gulf of Mexico. Going to Horseshoe was a right of passage and delight for all the grandchildren. In 2006 a stroke left Eunice in a wheelchair and her children secured a place for both parents in assisted living. A few months later, Eunice hired a nurse away from that "prison", and returned home where she stayed. She loved Christmas and just days before her passing she was directing caregivers as to where all the decoration belonged. Her children and grandchildren will miss her so. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 2 o’clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home with Dr. Oscar Cope officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations to Southwest Christian Care, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, GA 30291 or Christian City Children’s Home, 7345 Red Oak Road, Union City, GA 30291.
