Gladys Williamson

"She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future." There are no truer words than Proverbs 31:25 to describe the spirit of Gladys Moore Williamson. Born in LaGrange, Georgia during the height of World War I, Gladys lost her father to that war at just four years of age. Raised by a powerful, hard-working woman of faith, she grew to become one herself. Against all odds, she got an extensive education, becoming a passionate surgical nurse who was fascinated by science and fueled by compassion. While spending a Friday night at a church dance, she met a businessman from Chattanooga. The two were married three months later, cementing a bond that would last a lifetime and beyond. Gladys joyfully became a mother to Judith, a daughter who would follow in her footsteps and devoted her career to nursing. Margaret came next, and Gladys quickly became her daughter's life-long idol. For the second half of her life, she took on a new title, "Mimi." She savored Sunday night dinners and vacations with her six grandchildren. And then she became a great-grandmother. Number 11, Baby Tessa, is due any day. The end of Gladys life was marked by dementia. As a nurse it was a disease she'd feared. When it became her reality, she took it on with strength - losing her words but never her sweet sweet spirit. She formed a beautiful bond with her caretaker E.G. who called her "Mama." Endearing people, until the very end, several of Mimi's caretakers commented that she was their "favorite." And for us, her family, she is our favorite, too. Mimi will be welcomed to heaven by her dad Edward, who left her so many years ago, and by her mother, Jennie Mae Moore, her sister Ruth, her dear husband Richard Williamson and her son-in-law, Mickey Littlefield, who will certainly show her the ropes. She will live on through her daughters, Judy Hartley, Margaret Littlefield, son-in-law Don, grandchildren, Donnie, Jennifer, Jenny, Beth, Javi, Susan-Elizabeth, Victoria, Philip, and Matt and her GREAT great-grandchildren, Madison, Annabelle, Ty, Finn, Sarah Beth, Ellie, Emma Grace and Javier Junior, Jude and Lilah Kate. A deep woman of faith, she shared her love for Christ, using actions over words. She never feared death, but looked forward to eternal life.
