Helen Elizabeth Stancil Harbin

Helen Elizabeth Stancil Harbin, born December 10,1928, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, at the age of 96. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose love knew no bounds. Her greatest joys were the Lord and her family. Home was where her heart was. Every day, she faithfully prayed for her family and friends and lived in gratitude of God’s blessings. Throughout her life, she welcomed family and friends into her home. She was always focused on making people feel cared for—cooking a meal, showing up at important moments, sending cards, giving her time and resources generously. She was strong in her faith and lived her life reflecting Jesus’ love. Helen was a dedicated member of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Fayetteville for over 25 years. Even on the hard days, she found gratitude and joy knowing that each day was a gift from the Lord. Helen served as the secretary to her late husband, Maurice Henderson Harbin, Sr., at his businesses, Harbin Homes and Harbin Realty and Mortgage. She had a gift for decorating the houses he built and organizing the details of the business. Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Maurice Henderson Harbin, Sr.; her parents, William Alvin Stancil and Lizzie Kate Stewart Stancil; her sisters, Joyce Hudgins (Ronald) and Carolyn Baker; and her granddaughter-in-law, Celeste Madonna McCormick. Her legacy of love continues through her surviving family: her son, Senator Maurice “Marty” H. Harbin, Jr. (Debbie); her daughter, Melanie McCormick (Dr. T.G. “Mac” McCormick III); her brother-in-law, Joel Baker; her grandchildren, Heather McMichael (Ryan), Ryan McCormick (Courtney), Matthew Harbin (Hollie), Michael Harbin (Caylor), Meredith Talmage (Matthew), Daniel Harbin (Caroline), David Harbin (Kristen), and Hayley Suey (John Cole); as well as nineteen great-grandchildren: Ellie McMichael, Ben McMichael, Ryan Rose McCormick, River McCormick, Clayton Harbin, Estella Harbin, Thomas Harbin, Georgia Harbin, Grace Harbin, Sophie Harbin, Emma Harbin, Xander Talmage, Jamie Talmage, Serena Talmage, Elizabeth Talmage, Esther Harbin, Charlie Harbin, Evelyn Harbin, and Calhoun Suey. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 11 o’clock at Flat Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Josh Saefkow officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens. Helen will always be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the Lord and her loved ones. Donations can be given in her memory to Flat Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.
