James "Pete" Cavender

With heavy hearts, the family of James “Pete” Cavender announces his transition to his permanent home in heaven on June 10, 2026, at age 85, in his home in Sharpsburg, Ga., with his wife and family by his side. Pete was born to William Kendrick Cavender and Doris Cavender Bowman, and was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Dean Nixon, and Ricky Fleming. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Sandy Cavender; his five children, Mark Cavender, Mike Cavender, Michelle Cavender O'Dell, Dean Taylor (Angela), and Tracey Crane (Mike); eleven grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren, with the family continuing to grow. ALL his and Sandy’s family are the treasures, and most favored blessings from our Lord, (especially the Grands). Pete enjoyed a full life of sports, from being a dedicated coach of several little league teams in Palmetto, to include baseball and football. He and Sandy loved this season in life, and still take pride in his players, and loves and speaks of them often. He followed every sport in all leagues, and could have been a Professional Coach with the best (personal opinion of Sandy). Pete also enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, hunting, and spending a lot of childhood time on the “hooch” river with his Dad and friends. He loved camping, fishing, and pulling our kids on ski’s, and so much more. Pete enjoyed life to the fullest, loved God, Sandy, and family in that order. Pete’s main career was employment with Delta Airlines as a Senior Customer Service Agent for 35 years. After retiring from Delta in 1992 he and his wife managed a marina, and served with the Corp of Engineers at West Point Lake for a total of 17 years, which was a pleasure for them and their family. Since then, he has enjoyed his retirement and treasured time with his family. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 2 o'clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home with Dr. David Hammonds officiating. Interment will follow at Coke's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Parrott Funeral Home & Crematory. While it is impossible to fully capture the impact Pete had on so many lives, his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He was a wonderful husband, Dad, Granddaddy, Great Granddaddy, and friend, and sacrificed so much for his family. He dedicated his life to them and helping others. He and Sandy are members at Line Creek Baptist Church. He loved and enjoyed our family, our Church, and our Community, and served with joy. He was generous, faithful, and kind, and loved by many! He is already so sorely missed. May his special legacy live on in the hearts of all that knew him. We love you honey, Dad, Granddaddy, PopPop, and friend! Rest in peace with our sweet Jesus!!!
