Jean Howse

Mrs. Jean Overton Howse, age 91 of Dallas, Georgia passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the late Oscar Thomas “Tommy” Howse, Jr. She is survived by her children, Deanna (Michael) Marshall of McDonough, Georgia, Michael (Barri) Howse of Powder Springs, Georgia, Brenda Howse of Powder Springs, Georgia and Richard (Mary) Howse of Edisto Beach, South Carolina. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Originally from St. Petersburg, Florida, Jean was born on March 29, 1930 to Garnett (Nicholson) Overton and Claude Lockhart Overton. After moving to Atlanta and residing with her brother, the late James Overton and his wife, Chris Overton, she met her future husband, the late Oscar Thomas Howse, Jr., while working as a bank teller in Atlanta. After flirting with her and asking her for her telephone number, Jean played “hard to get” and merely replied, “It’s in the phone book.” Eventually he won her heart and they were married and resided in Atlanta. Jean and Tommy enjoyed a happy life together, with an eternal love that was evident through the eyes of all who were blessed to know them. They were always together and when it was necessary for them to be apart, they never parted from each other without a quick kiss goodbye. Jean’s greatest joy was her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. When they were visiting her, her eyes would sparkle with a light like no other. She entertained all who visited her with stories of fond memories that she and her husband shared, as well as the delightful memories of her children as they were growing up. Those who visited her were greeted with a smile, a loving hug and a feeling of coming ‘home’. She will always be remembered as the quintessential mother, an unshakable foundation of strength for those she loved. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 3:00 for members of the family.
