Graveside services for Mildred Owens Haynes Mitchell, 99, of Zebulon, GA. will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Fairburn, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm prior to the graveside services. Grandson Randy Haynes will conduct the services. Mrs. Mitchell passed away Wednesday night September 25, 2013 in Thomaston, Ga. Born March 20, 1914 to the late Gordon Ross Owens and Annie Frances Hughes Owens. She was pre-deceased by husband Ottis Mitchell and brothers, Harlan Owens, Howard Owens, Albert Owens and sisters, Lucille Owens, Frances Owens Alls and grandchildren Jeffery Haynes and Jackie Haynes, Jr. Mildred is survived by loving sons William G. Haynes and wife Jean of Sharpsburg, GA; Tommy Haynes and wife Barbara of Oxford, AL; Jack Haynes of Griffin, GA; and Jimmy Haynes and wife Susan of Barnesville, GA. She is also survived by grandchildren Charles Haynes (Angie), Wayne Haynes (Maria), Randy Haynes (Marian), Tina Johns (Ricky), Melinda Haynes, Billy Haynes (Kathy), Jill Haynes, David Haynes (Cindy), Jamie Lynn Buchanan, 12 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, several nieces/nephews, special persons James and Marne Buchanan and many friends at Oak Village Apartments in Zebulon, GA. Mildred was a native of Calhoun County and lived in Georgia since 1963. She worked at the Atlanta Airport for many years before retiring and was a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves and watched every televised game. Mildred was quick to answer many questions presented on her favorite tv game shows Jeopardy and Family Feud. She enjoyed fishing at Camp Jill, reading, watching hummingbirds and talking with her family and friends. Mildred was an expert seamstress and made most of her clothing. She was active, alert and maintained her own household until about 4 weeks ago when pancreatic cancer overtook her and quickly disabled her. She was a very strong and loving woman who overcame many adversities during her almost 100 years of life. She was extremely proud of her 4 sons and their families and her sons service in the military. She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. The family wishes to thank Dr. T. Aaron Buice of Barnesville, Ga for his prompt action in assisting our Mother during her short illness. Hospice Advantage was diligent, prompt, understanding and always there when needed. A special appreciation is given to the fantastic staff at Providence Health and Rehab in Thomaston, GA for their compassionate care of our mother during her short stay as a Hospice Advantage patient in their fantastic facility.
