Miriam Howard Barge

Miriam Howard Barge of Fayetteville, originally of Troy, Alabama, left this world on August 25, 2022. It is not too much to say that she was elegant. Deceptively brilliant, she was gracious and kind. Her sweet gentle soul and her glorious southern accent were beautiful. In her heart, the former Homecoming Queen and Miss Charles Henderson High School never left Troy, Alabama, or the fields of Good Hope in the Conecuh River Valley. When she walked into a room it was brighter for her presence. Miriam was always a perfect lady. She loved others without regard for the color of their skin, their wealth, or lack thereof, or the differences that seem to divide. The world was better because she was here. Hers was a life of remarkable self-sacrifice. A steel magnolia, she raised two boys by herself while she went back to school and worked three jobs. They never needed a thing, nor did they ever need a hero. They had that in their mom. Because of her, one is now an engineer and the other, a lawyer and a judge. She was Alan’s bride and Mom to Matthew (Alley) and Mark (Stacey), but the real joy in her life was that she was Mimi to Jacob, Aaron, Jesse, Mills and Cotten. Her beauty lives on in the little bright lights that they are. She was preceded in death by her brother, Freddy Howard, her parents, Harry Howard and Gerri Flowers, and a grandbaby, Jackson Haig McCord. There are many others left behind who loved her so; her baby brother, Phil Howard (Lisa), her cousin and dearest friend, John Robert Day (Jim), Sister-in-Law, Patsy Howard, her Mother- in-Law, Betty Barge and Sister-in-Law Claire Barge, her wonderful caretaker, Nell Arnold, many nieces and nephews, and a community of friends whose lives she touched. To know her was to love her. To the extent that heaven needed more grace, it has found it, and, with a little time, the angels’ accents will be all the sweeter. There will be visitation Monday August 29, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. EST at New Hope Baptist Church North Campus in Fayetteville, Georgia and a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. EST, with Rev. Hugh Kirby and Rev. John Conrad officiating, followed by a graveside service at 4:00 p.m. CST at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Troy, Alabama, Rev. Warren Huddleston officiating.
