Richard Atkins

Richard Atkins, born on September 16, 1965, in Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, in Sharpsburg, Georgia, at the age of 60. Richard was a graduate of Campbell High School’s Class of ‘84 where he was a Major in the ROTC program. After completing high school, he joined the U.S. Army. His commitment to service continued throughout his 15 year career as a police officer in Fairburn, Fulton County, and Coweta County. His service continued when he joined the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s TSA division where he served in a multi-faceted career spanning 21 years before retiring. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard had a zest for life that was evident in his many interests and hobbies. He was an avid sports enthusiast, with a particular passion for baseball and hockey. His adventurous spirit led him to enjoy horseback riding, snorkeling, traveling, and especially cruising. Richard was known for his sociable nature and cherished the time spent with his friends and family. His loyal dog, Milo, was a constant companion, bringing joy and comfort to his days. Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Janice Atkins, and his brother, Rodney Atkins. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Crystal Atkins; his sons, Caleb Atkins and Nicholas Almond; his father, Larry Atkins; his uncle, Alan Simmons and wife Jayne; his niece, Devon Millen and her fiancé Wayne Holt; his nephew, David Atkins; his great-niece, Cailyn Salter; his great-nephew, Carter Millen; and his cousins, Debra Budny and husband John, and Tammy Brandt and husband Ruric. Richard is also survived by many other extended family members and friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11 o'clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Parrott Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make a donation to their favorite charity. Richard Atkins will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love for sports, and his deep affection for family and friends. His legacy of warmth and friendship will continue to inspire all who knew him.
