Roger B. Jernigan

Roger B. Jernigan, aged 87, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and love. Born on June 1, 1937, he was a devoted husband, father, granddaddy, and great-granddaddy who cherished his time with family and friends. Roger’s life was a testament to his deep devotion to the Lord and his passion for teaching his children and grandchildren about Jesus. A lifelong member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, he followed in the footsteps of his parents, who helped build the church. His commitment to his faith and community was unwavering. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Roger also had a zest for life that included a love for travel, football, and camping. He found joy in coaching his children in various sports and had an abiding affection for all animals. At the age of 60, he undertook the challenge of building a barn using a sawmill to craft his own wood, showcasing his dedication and skill. Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Lou Dale Jernigan; his children, Jenny Northcutt (Mark), John Jernigan, and Angie Rainwater (Donald); and his grandchildren, Brad Northcutt (Nicole), Laura Chalk (Thorne), D.J. Morrow (Christine), Garrett Morrow (Haley), and Hunter Morrow (girlfriend Kierstin). He was adored by his great-grandchildren, Katie Schlief, Harding Chalk, Adeline Morrow, Arbin Chalk, Magnolia Loudale Morrow, and Emmett Morrow. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Reba Driver (Fred) and Sarah Davis, and brothers, Ted Jernigan (Maryanne) and Vann Jernigan (Shirley). Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson and Cora Jernigan, who instilled in him the values he carried throughout his life. Also preceded him are his siblings Carron Jernigan, Laris Jernigan, Lillian “Dee” Croker, Charlotte “Girley” Campbell. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, May 22, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Parrott Funeral Home. A service celebrating Roger's life will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 2 o'clock at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with Mark Powell officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery, where Roger will be laid to rest in the presence of his loving family and friends. Roger B. Jernigan will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to family, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
