Roger Dean Handley

Roger Dean Handley, a devoted husband, cherished father, and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, in Palmetto, Georgia, at the age of 81. Born on October 21, 1944, in Newnan, Georgia, he led a life marked by service, family, and a love for the simple pleasures of nature. Roger was a proud firefighter with the Fulton County Fire Department, where he served his community with courage and commitment for 38 years, retiring honorably as a captain. His dedication did not end with his retirement; he went on to work as a valued employee at Wright Funeral Home and Parrott Funeral Home & Crematory, continuing to offer comfort and support to families in times of need. Beyond his professional life, Roger was deeply involved in his local community. He served as a Palmetto City Councilman and contributed his expertise as a member of the zoning board for the city of Palmetto. His commitment to civic duty was an inspiration to all who knew him. Roger also found joy in tending to his garden and raising chickens, activities that brought him peace and satisfaction. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Claudus L. Handley and Annie Lou Davis Handley, and siblings Claudus L. Handley, Jr., Elizabeth Hembree, Hazel Hancock, and Margret Aiken. Roger leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Joyce Belcher Handley, and sons Larry Handley, and Barry D. Handley (Dan Bergman). He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Tiffany Handley Ent (Patrick), Taylor Handley Highnote (Brandon), and Payton Handley, as well as his great-grandchildren, Dakota Ent and Whitley James Highnote who will all carry forward his legacy of love and kindness. A graveside service in his honor will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 2 o'clock at Floral Hill Cemetery in Palmetto, Georgia, with Reverend David Smith and Mike O’Hara officiating. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Parrott Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Ramah Baptist Church Cemetery Association, 502 Ramah Dr, Palmetto, GA 30268, in memory of Roger's generous spirit and enduring faith. Roger Dean Handley will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his community, his love of family, and his gentle spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
