Velma Mae Booth

Velma Booth, born on August 19, 1930, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, at the age of 94. Velma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of many. Velma had love for poetry. As she grew older and her eyesight was failing, she could no longer read but would continue to recite poems that she had learned from her past. Velma married the love of her life, Joseph Booth. They had a beautiful marriage and both loved the Lord. They lived sharing and showing God's love to family and friends. They were a wonderful team as they worked together in their 'Mom and Pop" printing business. Velma had a great sense of humor and loved her family. For years, three of her sisters and Velma would make VHS videos and dress up and lip sync old country songs. They would share the video with another sister who lived in another country. They had great fun doing this, laughing all the while and connecting with their sister in the other country. Our mother, Velma, had unwavering love and support for us, her four daughters, and her nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was the heart of our family, and a source of endless strength and encouragement. Her family brought her so much joy! We are so thankful that she was with us for 94 years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We are so grateful for the love and guidance she provided throughout her life. Her memory will forever live in our hearts. Proverbs 31: 28 (a) Her children rise up, and call her blessed. Velma devoted many years of her life to her work as a typesetter at Pilgrim Press. Her dedication and precision in her craft were admired by colleagues and friends alike. She was also a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church for many years, where she found a spiritual home and a community that cherished her presence. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph "Joe" Booth; her father, James Salter; her mother, Mary Salter; and her sisters, Evelyn Medlock, Dorthy Patrie, and Ruth Moseley. Velma leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly: her sister, Patsy (Bob) Carter, and brother, Larry (Betty) Salter. She is also survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Steve) Parker, Sandi (Steve) Tanner, Susan (Ronald) Connally, and Nancy (John) Smith. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Brian (Amanda) Parker, Jamie (Bryan) Scott, Tom Tanner, Candi (Earl) Young, Joseph (Mayumi) Tanner, Leesa Shires, Jessica (Tom) McGahee, Alan Smith, and Jonathan (Tara) Smith. Velma was also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom brought her immense joy. Velma's memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith remain an inspiration to those she leaves behind.
