Anne Garrard

Mrs. Anne Garrard of Union City passed away October 29, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Garrard; son, Harold David Garrard; brothers, Jack Standard; Bob Standard and Clyde Standard. She is survived by her daughter, LuAnn Latzanich and her husband George of Fairburn; grandchildren, Daniel George Latzanich and Anna Marie Latzanich and great grandson Jose Latzanich. Anne was born in Mobile, AL in 1925 and spent the majority of her life in the Atlanta area. She grew up attending the former Capitol Ave. Baptist Church, where she met Harold. They wed in November 1948 and were very active in the music and teaching ministries of that church. The family eventually moved to Fairburn when Harold accepted a position as church organist at First Baptist of Fairburn. Anne has sung in the Church Choir and played handbells there for the past forty-five years. Professionally, she worked as secretary to the principal at Sylvan Hills High School in SW Atlanta. After Harold began his career with Delta Airlines in 1957 the two took advantage of their Delta flight privileges to explore the World. Their extensive travels took them to the UK and Ireland, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Israel, Normandy Beach in France, Russia and the Republic of Georgia, among other places. They developed many friendships along the way, and maintained relationships with people they met during their travels both near and far. Anne had great skill at making friends, both at home and abroad, and remained enthusiastically engaged in her social life until the very end of her life. And she always kept an overnight bag backed, in case the opportunity arose for her to take a trip. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11 o’clock at First Baptist Church of Fairburn with the remains placed in-state at 10 o’clock. Rev. Justin Terrell and Rev. Charles Whaley will be officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. Those wishing may sign the online guestbook at www.parrottfuneralhome.com.
