Betty Jo Miller Smith

Betty Jo Miller Smith, 91, of Newnan, Georgia died peacefully on August 6, 2025. Jo was born on July 7, 1934 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to George H. and Jennie S. Miller. Her family moved to Glendale, Arizona where she grew up, graduated from high school, and went on to meet the love of her life, Al Smith, who was stationed at Luke Air Force Base. They were married on November 6, 1953. Their daughter, Janis, was born in 1954 in Glendale. They moved to Georgia that same year, and in 1957 their son, Jim, was born. Jo and Al loved traveling to see family and friends, danced every chance they got, and proudly cheered on their beloved Dawgs as longtime University of Georgia season ticket holders. Jo lived a life of deep and abiding faith as a member of Fairburn Baptist Church and previously Shadnor Baptist. She was active with Women of Mission and Daughter of The Niles, among others. She was also immensely proud of her Native American heritage. Known for her infectious smile, sense of humor, and joyful laugh, Jo had a gift for making everyone feel like her best friend. Truly an entertainer, she lit up every room and filled every occasion with laughter. Jo is survived by her son, Jim (Lorre) of Plano, Texas; grandsons Garrett Smith of Denton, Texas and Hunter Smith (Danielle) of Richardson, Texas; sisters Donna White of Glendale, Arizona; Carolyn Davis of Chandler, Arizona; Phyllis Clonts (Frank) of Rockmart, Georgia; brother Eddie Miller (Jan) of Newnan, Georgia, and multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George H. Miller and Jennie S. Miller; husband, Alfred P. Smith; daughter, Janis Smith Green; brother Fred M. Miller; half-brother George H. “Jack” Miller and half-sister Reba Jo Miller Glades. Jo was the heart of our family, and while we will miss her deeply, we will forever cherish her memory and the countless stories she shared. A service to celebrate Jo’s life will be held at the Chapel at Parrott Funeral Home on September 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the same day. We invite all those who knew and loved her to join us in celebrating her remarkable life.
