Dorothy Pierce

Dorothy Freeman (Nana) Pierce, age 95, a longtime resident of East Point went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 21, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Dot was born in Atlanta, GA and was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Alison and Nellie Dyer Freeman, her beloved husband, of 67 plus years, Parker B. Pierce, Sr. and her six siblings, Ben, Bud, Sara, Jenny, Jack and Betty Ann. Dot graduated from Richardson High School in College Park GA. She was primarily a homemaker but worked part time through the years at Georgia Power Company, Downtown Rich’s, and as a substitute teacher. She also worked as a volunteer pink lady at South Fulton Hospital for 30 years where she was also the Chaplain’s secretary. Dot never met a stranger and was a friend to many. She was known for her hospitality and good cooking, especially her homemade coconut cakes. She loved The Lord and her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Dot accepted Christ when she was 14 years old and passed a legacy of Christianity to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of East Point from 1946 until its closing in April 2014. After the church’s closing she faithfully attended Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church until her homegoing with the Lord. The family is thankful to Dr. Charles Bergstrom and his staff for their loving care and dedicated service. Dot is survived by her daughter, Joy Pierce Doris and her husband, Joe of Fayetteville; son, Parker B. Pierce, Jr and his wife, Kim of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Jeff and Katrina Doris; Jim and Melanie Doris; Julie and Gary Butler; Rebekah and Ty Garrison; Parker, III and Sarom Pierce and 14 great grandchildren, Nicholas, Victoria, Hannah, and Zachary Doris; Anna, Michael, and Emily Butler; Gracey, Jodey, Maddey and Sawyer Garrison and Kayla , Julie, and Isla Pierce. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2 o’clock at the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home with Dr. J.W. Wallis and Rev. Darwin Caldwell officiating. Interment to follow at College Park Cemetery. Those wishing may send an on line condolence at www.parrottfuneralhome.com.
