George N Rainwater, Jr.

George N. Rainwater, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on July 21, 2024, in Newnan, Georgia. He was born on June 2, 1953, in Atlanta, Georgia, making him 71 years old at the time of his passing. A godly man, George placed God first in his life, followed closely by his deep love and dedication to his family. A member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, he lived his life as a testament to his faith. He was a great provider, often sacrificing his own needs to ensure his family never did without. George's big heart, filled with love and warmth, touched everyone around him. As a devoted husband to Bonnie Rainwater for nearly 51 years, he was a steadfast and loving partner, celebrating their wedding anniversary every September 22nd since 1973. George dedicated nearly 20 years to Eastern Airlines as a ground equipment mechanic, showcasing his unparalleled expertise and determination in fixing the seemingly unfixable. Later, he continued his career as the head custodian at Hapeville Elementary and as a mechanic at the Fulton County Government. George’s profound ability to repair anything and his knowledge of older model cars made him a highly regarded mechanic. His passionate love for motorcycles, hot rods, and muscle cars was apparent to all who knew him. Towards the end of his life, George expressed his appreciation for everyone he came in contact with by telling them, "I love you." His words and actions serve as a testament to the profound and enduring love he had for family, friends, and his community. George N. Rainwater, Jr. will be deeply missed, but his spirit and the lessons of love and faith he imparted will live on forever. George was preceded in death by his parents, George N. Rainwater, Sr., and Louise Elizabeth Hill Rainwater, as well as his brother and best friend, Terry Alan Rainwater. He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength among his surviving family and friends, including his devoted wife, Bonnie Rainwater; children Jodi Jones (Byron), Gregory George Rainwater (Lesley Ann), and David Ray Vail; grandchildren Byron Jarrett Jones, Colton Dean Jones, Harley Madison Rainwater (Gregory Algarin Troia), Christopher Howard Steadham, and Jacob Thomas Steadham; sister Elizabeth Ann Whitlock (Franky); brother Thomas Eugene Rainwater (Dee); sister-in-law Cindy Rainwater; along with many cherished nieces and nephews. Services to honor George's memory will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 2 o'clock at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Rush officiating. Minister Gregory George Rainwater (of Change Church) and Pastor Ross Anderson (of Cedar Grove Church of Christ) will also be speaking as requested by George. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
