Marcus Lee Long Jr.

Marcus “Lee” Long, Jr., a devoted family man, veteran, and respected member of his community, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Born on April 10, 1925, in College Park, Georgia, Lee lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love. He was 99 years old at the time of his passing. Lee proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, where he participated in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Following his honorable service, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career with Delta Airlines, retiring after 42 years of dedicated work. Lee was also a 70 year member of The Masonic Lodge. An avid golfer, Lee found joy and camaraderie on the greens. His faith was an integral part of his life; he was a cherished member of Southwest Christian Church in Newnan, Georgia, and previously worshiped at First Christian Church of Tyrone. Lee and Nona also gave back to his community through his volunteer work at Southwest Christian Care. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Nona Long, and his parents, Marcus Lee, Sr. and Lillian Long. Marcus leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his children, Marc Long (Debbie), Melinda Hutcheson (Rock), and Steve Long; his grandchildren, Lee Long (Anissa), Angela Jones (Chad), Jeffrey Hutcheson, and Joel Hutcheson (Haley); and his great-grandchildren, Kyra Long, Justin Long, Auston Long, Sarah Jones, Trey Jones, Charlotte Hutcheson, and Blakely Hutcheson. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy Westbrooks (Gene), along with many nieces and nephews. A funeral service to honor Lee's life will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 3:00 PM at First Christian Church of Tyrone, with Gary Boyd and James White officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Marcus Lee Long, Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his steadfast faith, and his enduring legacy of service. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
