Margie Ann Milam Watkins

On October 30, 2022, at the age of 96, Margie Ann Milam Watkins of Jasper, Georgia (formerly of Fayetteville, Georgia), went to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born on December 5, 1925, in Fairburn, Georgia, to the late John Franklin “Mance” Milam and Jewell Cook Milam. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 74 years Clovis Edward “Ed” Watkins Jr., her son Clovis Edward “Eddie” Watkins III, sister Edith Sweeney, and brothers Dorin Eugene Milam Sr. and Bobby C. Milam. She is survived by her children, Brenda Bullington (Deryl) of Fayetteville, Georgia; David Watkins (Patty) of Jasper, Georgia; Gary Watkins (Jennifer) of Jasper, Georgia; grandchildren, Dave Watkins (Brandy Goins Cariola), James Watkins, Shawn Ann Collins (Seth), Heather Stogsdill (Tom), Stefanie Couch (Ben), Amanda Watkins, Rebekah Watkins; great-grandchildren Quinn Watkins, Gracie Rae Collins, Nolan Collins, Alaina Collins; and many nieces, nephews, and other special family and friends. Margie grew up on a farm in Fairburn, Georgia. She graduated from Campbell High School in 1943. She met her husband Ed at the Rock Baptist Church, and they were married on June 28, 1946. They raised their four children in Fairburn, Georgia. She was a full-time homemaker. Margie was a faithful member of the Rock Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Georgia. She sang in the choir and attended Sunday School for many years. She was an avid reader of fiction books and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She was a big fan of gospel and country music and occasionally attended the Grand Ole Opry. She loved fishing and competing against her family to catch the biggest fish. She enjoyed spoiling the many chihuahuas that she had over the years. Her favorite places to visit were Daytona, Gatlinburg, and Helen. Bird-watching was one of her pastimes, and she especially enjoyed watching hummingbirds. She collected teddy bears and porcelain dolls. She played the piano by ear and enjoyed singing, particularly hymns. Of all the things that Margie enjoyed, her favorite way to spend her time was with family. Whether it was sharing a meal, a visit, or a phone call, she wanted to stay connected to her family. She invested time in the lives of her family members. We are all left with fond memories of time spent in the presence of this amazing woman who lived so well for so long. We will always miss you, “Mamaw.” The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Rock Creek Manor of Jasper for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 11 o’clock at Parrott Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel DeJong officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park.
