Ruth Tumlin

Mrs. Ruth Cheatwood Tumlin of Sharpsburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior, with her family by her side on October 2, 2011. She is reunited with her husband of 58 years, the late Louis Tumlin. Together they now “Stroll Over Heaven”. Ruth was born in Fruithurst, Alabama on May 27, 1925. She grew up there until WWII broke out at which time she left home to support the war effort. During this time she met her future husband, Louis Tumlin at work. The day after he first met her, he said to her as she took the elevator, “I told my father yesterday I met the woman I am going to marry”. She replied, “You’re crazy”. She always said how persistent he was, buying her a Dr. Pepper everyday (at that time in the world that was a very magnanimous gift). A few months later she left that post to perform other duties supporting the troops and thought she would never see him again. Ruth eventually wound up in Atlanta to work on the aircraft production line for Bell Aircraft. It was during this time they reconnected and Louis asked for her hand in marriage. They were wed on January 21, 1945. They lived for many years in Lakewood Heights and were faithful followers of the Lakewood Heights Baptist Church. Ruth’s favorite book of the Bible is the Book of Psalm’s. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Lakewood Chapter #162. We will dearly miss the motherly love, faith, wisdom and comfort you always gave us. You filled our hearts with unconditional love and always teaching us to love one another and to value family above all else. She is survived by her children, Ronald Louis of Sharpsburg; Wayne George and his wife, Linda of Sharpsburg; Gayle Ruth Tumlin Guht and her husband, Robert of Newnan; Jeffrey Lamar and his wife, Toni of Peachtree City; sisters, Bernice Thompson of Edwardsville, AL; Lucille Williams of Barnesville; brother, Fred Cheatwood and his wife, Bobbie of Heflin, AL; grandchildren, Bryan, Scott, Adam, Steven, Melanie and Amelia; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Nikki, Casey, Ian, Arielle and Khloe; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 2 o’clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home with Pastor Brent Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Those desiring may sign our online guest registry at www.parrottfuneralhome.com.
