Sharon Murphy

Mrs. Sharon Yvonne Dimmitt Murphy of Palmetto, Georgia, entered heaven Monday afternoon, February 28, 2022, after complications during rehabilitation from heart surgery. She was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky on May 01, 1944, to Lloyd and Yvonne (Harris) Dimmitt. Preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Yvonne (Harris) Dimmit and step-mother Catherine Dimmitt Carpenter, sons William Simeon Walls, Jr. and William Earl Walls, granddaughters Kimberly Hudson and Heather Zujkowski, and step-son William Thomas Murphy, Jr. Sharon is survived by spouse, William Thomas Murphy, Sr., and sister Michelle (Jason) Chisenhall; children Barbara (Tim) Hudson, Beverly (William) Cowart, and Keith (Tracey) Walls; grandchildren Bryan (Candace) Hudson, Scott (Tayler) Hudson, Brandi (Drake) Adams, Justin Walls, Suzanne (Mike) Whitaker, and Angie Crowell; great-grandchildren Ben and Rylee Grace Hudson, Shayla Cipperly, Isaac Zujkowski, Noah Zujkowski, Jordan Oliver, Taylor Oliver, Jade (Austin) Whitaker, Jacob (Julie) Crowell, and Jacey Crowell; and several nieces, nephews, and four great-great-grandchildren. Sharon is also survived by her step-children, Peggy (Jack) Wooddall, Pam Gentry Murphy, James Daniel “Putt” Murphy, and bonus daughter, Beth (Jeffery) Collinsworth, and their families. Sharon graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1962 and continued her education attending The Citadel Theological Baptist Seminary as well as Tennessee Temple University receiving degrees from both including a degree in Christian Education from Tennessee Temple in 1978. She worked in Deaf Education with preschoolers while living in Tennessee but also served as secretarial staff at Tennessee Temple administrative offices and shared stories and laughs with many alumni preachers through the years since. Sharon loved worshiping with her church family at Tri-County Baptist Church in Senoia as well as at Victory Baptist Church in Palmetto where she and William attended when there were no services at Tri-County or the drive to Senoia was prohibited due to the weather or early sunset in winter. Missions conferences and guest preachers that she knew from her days at Tennessee Temple University were some of her favorite times to be at Tri-County. She also had a special place in her heart for Deaf people and was used by God to tell them about her Jesus by learning sign language and interpreting worship to provide accessibility to Deaf men, women, and children. Her most recent students were high schoolers at Newnan Christian School, run by Bible Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 2 o’clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home with Dr. Doug Anderson, Rev. Ron Whitlock, and Rev. David Smith officiating.
